About Us
Mission Statement
The Global Warming Action Alliance (GWAA) mission is to educate the public about the realities of climate change, how it will continue to affect the people, wildlife and vegetation of Maryland, and what we all can do to reduce our carbon footprint. Our goal is to save money and save the planet, one person, one family, one town at a time, while continuing a modern life-style
The Eastern Shore of Maryland and the shores of the Chesapeake Bay are especially susceptible to the ravages of global heating. Water levels here are rising twice as fast as the world average.
The rapid rise is due to three factors: land subsidence due to depletion of underground aquifers, land subsidence due to tectonic movement, and rising sea levels due to ice melt and warmer water expanding. These factors are crucial to the biota of the Bay area, making the participation of all residents especially critical.
GWAA will assist the people of Maryland by achieving these goals:
1. Inform the public about the science, dangers and opportunities of climate change through its website, e-mail newsletters and flashes, public meetings, collaboration with other organizations, and other means as available.
2. Engage the public in specific actions that reduce our carbon footprint.
3. Donate resources to assist the poor and elderly in conserving energy and saving money.
4. Organize petitions and mass mailings from the citizenry to influence companies and legislators to change to green and renewable resources.
