WE NEED HELP

Upside Down Flag

FLYING YOUR COUNTRY'S COLOURS UPSIDE DOWN IS AN INTERNATIONAL SIGN OF DISTRESS.

It means we are in a serious, life-threatening situation, and we cannot, without outside help, save ourselves. We encourage everyone to fly the flag upside down until help arrives.

Big Blue Marble

This is the last photo taken by man. Called 'The Blue Marble' it is the most published photo ever. It was taken by the Apollo 17 crew as they headed home from the Moon, with the sun directly behind them. Somewhere on that small planet is a tiny place called Maryland.

As the Earth's temperature rises, ice and permafrost melt. Scientists were literally amazed when this huge crack just snapped open.

G8 Fails to Establish Meaningful Target

The emissions reduction target established by the G8 summit earlier this week is as disappointing as most of us had expected. The 50% by 2050 target is a far cry from the 80% by 2050 cries of activists and the problem only starts there. First, the agreement is also extremely vague, failing to mention what year the "50% reduction" is meant to refer to. Second, it makes no particular commitments to action. Third, it was rejected by developing countries.

Skepticism Runs High at G8 Summit

Leaders from the countries comprising the "Group of Eight" -- the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain, France, Canada, Italy and Russia -- are gathering in Japan for several days of meetings. Discussion among the eight nations and between the eight and representatives from African nations and China will focus on climate change, the world economy and the battle against hunger and poverty.

Whether G8 members will be able to agree on a plan to cut emissions 50% by 2050 is yet unclear. A more desirable goal -- that of setting emission targets for 2020 -- is generally considered beyond hope. Skepticism runs high and few observers expect that any significant progress will be made during the three days of meetings.

The will of the people.

What a pity our jurisprudence does not allow us to reach and penalize the real architects of our destruction: the wealthy elite, the top 1 percent of the population who hold 40 percent of the wealth (The National Monitor), whose compulsive objectives are acquisition of even more wealth and the continued control of the American people.

Energy Savings Tip

The point driving the dissemination of our news stories and scientific reports is to enlighten and give the reader an idea what the rest of the world is doing, seeing, and feeling about global warming. In the U.S. we tend to receive homogenized news, conservative cant, and White House whining, so the average reader (less than 50% of the population) has not the slightest idea of the real world’s activities.
